Between Genders / Entre Gêneros

Between Genders is a series of portraits I took between 2003 and 2004. It’s about transsexuals.
I photographed them in their day-to-day lives, in an attempt to better understand who these people are.

With time I became very attached to two of them in particular and a wonderful friendship has grown
out of our exchange.

I realized while working on the project that these people are extremely strong and brave and I deeply
respect and admire them for their fearlessness to be whom they truly are independent of how other people
will react towards them.

Em 2003, comecei um projeto fotográfico em Paris, França sobre transsexuais. Passei mais de um ano
entrevistando e fotografando os transsexuais de Paris. Finalmente me tornei bastante amiga de dois
deles e pude aprender um pouco sobre sua situação na atual sociedade da Europa. As dificuldades e
preconceitos que tem que enfrentar são enormes.
